No Peace in Burma: Battles continue to rage between Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Burmese Army in Kachin and northern Shan states… two Burmese military fighter jets bomb KIA positions.
Burmese army troops currently based at Mali Yang fired several mortar rounds on gold mines along Mali Hka and Houng Ing in Sumpra Bum area on Dec 26. Local residents said a few mortar shells fell near their homes in Ja Ra Yang village. No casualties have been reported so far.
On Christmas day, Burmese army troops reportedly fired over 100 mortar rounds on amber mines in Danai Township.
On Dec 24, Burmese army troops fired several mortar rounds on Woi Chyai IDP camp in Laiza injuring Lahpai Kai Nan, a volunteer teacher helping IDP children. Lahpai Kai Nan was later brought to Laiza General Hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, battles continue to rage between Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Burmese Army in Kachin and northern Shan states.
In southern Kachin state, a battle took place between KIA’s 27th Battalion troops and an unknown Burmese army unit at Sa Ra Kadit, located between Bum Chyaw and Kale Hkyet in Mansi Township, on Dec 23 at 7:15 am. KIA sources said the battle began as Burmese army troops advanced into KIA’s 27 Battalion’s frontline posts. Burmese army troops based at Kai Htik, Man Dat and Bum Chyaw Bum supported its infantry unit by firing several mortar rounds on KIA positions during the battle. The two sides again battled at Lahkra Daw Mare Dingsa on the same day at around 2 pm.
On Dec 22, Burmese army troops launched an attack on KIA 27th Battalion’s Sha-u Bum at around 8: 30 am, and KIA 12th Battalion’s position near Hka Kan at around 9:30 am.
On Dec 21, KIA’s 27th Battalion troops and an unknown Burmese army unit fought at Sha-u Bum at around 10:30 am. During the battle, two Burmese military fighter jets bomb KIA positions at Maji Gung Kaba, Hka Chyang Hku and Hku Bung.
